Having a particular inclination toward the emotion-inducing sounds of film music that captured him from a very young age, this is the primary focus of Joshua’s compositions. Seeking to reproduce the subtle, audible story that transports listener to another time and place. Beginning with his first piano that was gifted from his parents due to a rather odd obsession with ‘pushing buttons’, the desire to further his keyboard studies quickly evolved into musical obsessions with the pipe organ, culminating in organ and percussion study. Fascinated by the pipe organ both musically and as an engineering marvel, he studied organ and piano performance at Te Kōkī the New Zealand School of Music. Although music that tell a story is the primary focus of his composition, the influence of his experience with performing groups that exposed him to different styles of music is distinctly evident in his writing style and orchestration.
